Harassment
Implicit in any tenancy is the tenant's right of Quiet
Enjoyment. This means that the landlord should not do
anything to interfere with your peaceable occupation and enjoyment
of the premises.
It is a criminal offence under Protection from Eviction
Act 1977 for a landlord, or someone acting on his or her
behalf, to carry out acts which are intended to
make you leave the premises or to stop you from exercising your
legal rights.
The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea's Tenancy
Relation Office> [TRO] advises landlords and tenants on
the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.
The TRO's will intervene to prevent breaches of the law including,
if necessary, taking criminal proceedings against an offending
landlord.
