About Us
What are Health Trainers?
Health Trainers form part of the Well-Being Project at Staying
Put Services. Our aim is to improve the health of residents by
encouraging healthy behaviour changes.
Why do people need Health Trainers?
Inequalities
Six of Hammersmith and Fulham's 16 wards are among the most
deprived in England. It is therefore unsurprising that health
inequalities are of concern in the borough since those on low
incomes in unsuitable housing are more likely to suffer from poor
health than their wealthier neighbours. Interestingly, northern
wards such as Wormholt & White City have lower life
expectancies and more deprivation.
Teenage pregnancies in Hammersmith & Fulham are more common
than England as a whole and there are more deaths from smoking and
cancers.
Hammersmith and Fulham has the seventh highest drug dependency
rate in London and the highest rate for alcohol dependency. Poor
diet and physical inactivity leading to obesity and its related
disorders is also on the rise in this borough.
How can this change?
Health Trainers motivate and help people to set goals by developing
personal health plans, give practical support to carry out those
plans and help individuals identify their barriers to change. By
targeting areas of deprivation it is hoped that over time health
inequalities will be reduced.
How can health trainers help you? - The service on
offer
The Hammersmith and Fulham health trainers offer one-to-one
confidential advice and support to help individuals tackle a wide
range of health issues. Over a number of sessions your health
trainer will work alongside you to identify a set of goals you
would like to achieve to improve your health. They will provide you
with the information, support and encouragement to achieve your
targets.
Need help in becoming more active?
With
hectic lifestyles and long working hours many of us have little
time for exercise leading us to become inactive for long periods of
time. Hammersmith and Fulham health trainers can offer support and
advice that will enable you to be more active, in a way that is
tailored to fit around your lifestyle and your budget!
Thinking of losing weight?
Being overweight is strongly linked with a number of long term
health problems. Simple dietary adjustments play a key role in
losing weight and making these changes to your diet can reduce the
risk of heart disease and cancer. Our program will provide you with
dietary tips to improve your lifestyle, such as healthy cooking
ideas that will suit your budget and develop your diet.
Still smoking?
Do you want to stop smoking but think you will find it difficult to
do so without help? A health trainer can provide encouragement and
help you to find the support you need to kick the habit. Whether
you choose to follow an NHS program or go it alone, we can
help!
Seeking support with sexual health matters?
